Mohamed Hillow

I am a board-certified Consultant Psychiatrist currently practicing at Mathari National Teaching and Referral Hospital, Kenya’s leading mental health institution. I have extensive experience in diagnosing and managing a wide spectrum of mental health conditions, with a special focus on psychotic disorders, mood disorders, trauma-related conditions, and community mental health. I integrate evidence-based psychiatric care with compassionate, person-centred practice. My work spans inpatient and outpatient services, psychosocial interventions, crisis management, and culturally sensitive mental healthcare delivery. I have also been instrumental in strengthening mental health services in Northern Kenya, including setting up new clinical programs, supporting rural mental health outreach, and advancing mental health advocacy through the Kenya Medical Association (KMA) Northeastern branch, where I serves as Chair. I am a dedicated researcher and mental health champion, I contributed to multiple institutional review and research processes, supported protocol development at the Aga Khan University Brain and Mind Institute (BMI), and I am actively involved in emerging areas such as climate–mental health interactions and digital mental health innovations for remote communities. I am committed to delivering high-quality, accessible mental healthcare and supporting individuals on their journey to recovery and wellbeing.
